Current Season – Summer 2024

Sheffield A and Hull are divisonal winners of the OYL

Congratulations to Sheffield A, who are the winners of division 1 of the summer 2024 season of the Online Yorkshire League by the convincing margin of 18 victory points.   Olicana Legates were second and Malton A third.    Sheffield A thus completed a ‘double’ as they were the winners of the 2023-24 season of the face- to-face Yorkshire League.

The winners of division 2 were Hull, whose victory by 23 victory points was even more comprehensive.  Wetherby Redkites were second and Barnsley Aeros third.   Opinions differ, but the writer rather enjoys the imaginative team nicknames.    Barnsley’s three teams are all named after chocolate bars.

At the time of writing only one match in division 2 remains to be played, postponed from 7th July because of a technical issue in setting up the match on BBO.    The organisers are hugely appreciative of the work of match secretaries, team captains and the players themselves in arranging and taking part in the matches – 117 in all!.     It is no mean feat getting eight players together on the same day at the same time during the summer with so many other competing demands on people’s time.

The next season of the Online Yorkshire League will be Winter 2025, scheduled for 5th and 19th January and 2nd February.   Make a note in your diaries now!

When converting scores from imps to VPs, would team captains please use the EBU Discrete Scale for matches of 8 boards, not the Continuous Scale. This Scale is in a table at the end of the Competition Rules and can also be found by clicking on Conversion Scale n the Important Links panel on the right hand side.

The organisers occasionally receive queries about permitted systems and conventions in the Yorkshire League and the Online Yorkshire League. They are Level 4 as described in the current edition of the EBU Blue Book.
