Current Season – Winter 2025

The third match day of the Winter 2025 season of the Online Yorkshire League took place on 2nd February. Two of thee published results are subject to Tournament Director rulings. One match in division 3 was not played owing to a technical issue with the BBO platform. This will be rearranged or a result will be adjudicated in accordance with competition rules.

The winners of the three divisions are:

Division 1 – Sheffield A

Division 2 – Sheffield Falcons

Division 3 – Leeds Just One Off.

The competition rules provide that if two or more teams are tied on victory points the tie is to be broken as provided in the EBU White Book.    The first tiebreaker is the result of the head to head match between the teams, but there was no match between Doncaster and Leeds in the fixture list, each of the twelve teams in division 3 playing just nine matches.    The second tiebreaker is the number of matches won by the teams.    Leeds won eight matches to Doncastr’s seven, so Leeds are the winners of division 3.

Unfortunately we are unable to change the order in which the teams are listed in the league table in EBULeague.    This is because the EBU software used to compile the league table lists the teams in alphabetical order when they are level on victory points and average points per match.

The next season of the Online Yorkshire League will be in the summer with match days on 25th May, 22nd June and 6th July. The first match day was originally scheduled for 18th May but moved to the 25th following a decision of the Yorkshire League Committee on 4th February, subject to ratification by the Tournament Committee. The change has been made to avoid a clash with Leeds Bridge Club’s Swiss Pairs competition.

When converting scores from imps to VPs, would team captains please use the EBU Discrete Scale for matches of 8 boards, not the Continuous Scale. This Scale is in a table at the end of the Competition Rules and can also be found by clicking on Conversion Scale n the Important Links panel on the right hand side.

The organisers occasionally receive queries about permitted systems and conventions in the Yorkshire League and the Online Yorkshire League. They are Level 4 as described in the current edition of the EBU Blue Book.
