An appeal was made against a first instance TD ruing in division 1 match between Doncaster A and Sheffield A, played on 16th February. The appeal has now been determined and the result in victory points is unchanged (17-3 to Sheffield).
Match day 6 round up
First of all. congratulations to Sheffield C who have an unassailable lead of 34 victory points and so are already the winners of division 6 with a match to spare.
The winners and promotion and relegation places in the other divisions will all be decided in the final round of matches on 16th March.
There is an extraordinary league table in division 3. Leeds C lost their first match in round 6 but still have a lead of 12 points. However, only 9 points separate Brighouse Aces and Wensleydale in equal second place and Olicana Tribunes in seventh. Any of these six teams could still be promoted and any could be relegated.
As anticipated, it will be a head to head between Sheffield A and York A in division 1. The teams play each other in round 7, with Sheffield having a lead of 6 points.
There are three teams in contention for promotion from division 2. Olicana Legates lead the way by 4 points from Thirsk A with Hull A another 4 points adrift.
It’s even tighter in division 4 with only six points between the top four – Wetherby B on 79, York C 75, Wakefield B 74 and Huddersfield A 73.
In division 5, Halifax A lost for the first time in round 6 but are nearly there with a lead of 8 points over Leeds D and 19 ahead of York D.
Last but not least, in division 7 two of three contenders will be promoted – Olicana Legionnaires favourites leading Wetherby C by 8 with Halifax B 2 more points back.
The Yorkshire League Committee has decided that any match postponed from one of the first four scheduled match days in the autumn must be rearranged and played before 16th February 2025,,which is the first match day after the winter break. Any match postponed from one of the scheduled match days on 16th February, 2nd March or 16th March must be rearranged and played no later than 13th April 2025, which will be the closing date for the 2024-25 season of the Yorkshire League.
At the YCBA AGM on 8th June 2024 a question was asked about the Yorkshire League Rules relating to rearrangement of matches by agreement between the teams. The Yorkshire League Committee (YLC) agreed that a statement of its approach to the application of the Rules would be placed on the website.
- There are no restrictions on teams agreeing to play a match on a date earlier than the scheduled date in the fixture list. The approval of the YLC is not required.
- Postponing a match to a date after the one scheduled in the fixture list is more problematic. There are some circumstances, particularly near the end of the season, when teams may gain an advantage, or be perceived to have gained an advantage, from playing with the knowledge of the results achieved by other teams in the division on the match day in question. However, postponements may be allowed with the approval of the YLC. The teams should make a joint application for such approval by email to the League Secretary in good time, and preferably not less than 14 days before the match day in question. The application should give the reasons for the request.
- If a match is played after a scheduled date without prior YLC approval then, depending on the circumstances, either or both teams will be in default, and victory point penalties may be applied as provided in the Rules.
The YLC do not expect a significant increase in the number of postponed matches. The wording of the Rules and the way they are applied may be reconsidered for future seasons, if it appears that teams are exploiting the current arrangements by requesting approval of a postponement when they could have played a match on the scheduled date by bringing in reserve players.
