The YCBA Grants committee has now made an offer of assistance to 7 clubs to help them with their restarting face to face bridge. This offer of assistance from the YCBA to all clubs will continue to the end of December. If your club would like to find out how to go about getting some assistance, please do not hesitate to contact anyone on the board who will then pass it onto the Grants committee for consideration.

Acting Secretary announced

It is with great pleasure to announce that the YCBA has appointed Dani Hyman as acting secretary to the YCBA (her appointment will only become official when approved at the AGM). She replaces Julia Staniforth who has given 10 years of unstinting service to the role and will hopefully still contribute her expertise to the YCBA.

Dani is a member of Leeds BC and has been playing since she was 13 years old. Unfortunately she is a Leeds Rhinos fan, so it is not all perfect!. She has vast administrative experiences in the roles she has carried out for her work and will bring those with her to the role of YCBA secretary. If you wish to contact her, this can be done through the link on the website .

We, at the YCBA, wish Dani all the best in her new role and look forward to working with her.

Yorkshire Invitation team win Friendly against Southampton and District

Friendly between a Yorkshire invitation team & Southampton and District

On 10th June a friendly took place between a Yorkshire invitation team and Southampton and District. The Southampton team comprised of the Corwen winning pair, 2 of the strongest players from Kent and several strong Southampton players. I am pleased to say that the Yorkshire team won by 3 matches to one.

In the first match Nick Woolven and Mike Ferguson were on fire and partnering Mike Jackson and John Hayton, winning by 73-26.

The second match probably saw some of the best bridge from both teams and Southampton won this by 58-38. The Yorkshire team was Alan Hayward and Alan Jarvis partnering Robin Jepson and Alan Brosgill.

The third match saw Keith Joules and David Beck partnering Ian Johns and John O’Sullivan winning by   49 -24, with some good contracts being bid and made.

The final match saw Chris and Pauline Fort partnering Stephen and Cheryl Brown who had a storming victory of 41-9 bidding and making some good contracts missed in other matches.

The match was played in a friendly manner and competitive spirit and the banter afterwards on the zoom meeting was lively.
