Yorkshire League Committee Meeting Minutes

Before the advent of the Online Yorkshire League, minutes for the Yorkshire League Committee did not exist as to my recollection we never met to discuss anything. Information was by word of mouth, phone or email. The pandemic changed everything. Robin Jepson was tasked with setting up an online Bridge league for Yorkshire, I then volunteered my help with compiling fixtures and then after a meeting of the YCBA committee Nick Woolven and John Hayton came on board and the Online YLC was formed. Fortunately, we had a good mix of skills and worked well together, having committee meetings by zoom and communicating primarily by email.
Towards the end of the pandemic, Philip Mason who was chairman of the Yorkshire League Committee died in unfortunate circumstances, Stuart Davies wished to step down from the Yorkshire League Committee and this left Robin and I on the Yorkshire League committee and the imminent return of the face-to-face Yorkshire League was not far away. I mentioned to the YCBA Committee that I wasn’t sure what was needed but could get something going to get the Yorkshire League going again and shortly afterwards was made chairman of the joint Yorkshire League Committee and the Online Yorkshire League Committee. After his large contribution in setting up the online league during the pandemic and help in getting the face-to-face league going again John Hayton stepped down from the Yorkshire League Committee and was ably replaced by Stephen Cordingley. Robin, Nick, Stephen and I have run things ever since and I have been writing the minutes ever since John left. The minutes that are shown are from when I took them over.
Minutes to me are meant to be an account of what has been discussed, decided and who is to act and when as a result of the discussions. I don’t say who was present as anybody who can’t make a meeting is contacted beforehand to find out information if needed for the meeting and informed afterwards of the meeting itself, and what has been decided. The minutes are more a reminder for us as to what has happened and are intended for the committee itself. Today the 7th of April 2025 is the first time they have been published. I hope that anybody who reads them, though intended for us will find them informative.
